Liane got a teaching job nearly an hour away from our previous residence. We've decided to move to a place somewhere in between my work and hers. Since most of that area is farmland the pickings are slim, so we thought we were going to build a house. We spent well over a year and a half pushing down that path, but in the end we ended up buying a used one and remodeling (which, as it turns out, is sort of like building). All of this two plus year adventure is chronicled here for your enjoyment.

FIRE!
First use of our fireplace.
It's nice, but....we miss the real one. Instead of the warmth and sound of logs cracking and popping we just get a visual and the hissing of a gas line. Ahh well, at least we don't have to clean out the ashes.
I think that you will find that it does add heat to the room. Our glass doors get hot and it does impact the thermostat that is across the room. Probably not a instantaneous as sitting directly in front of a real fire but still heat.
And, Mr. Sound guy, I think you could come up with some subtle sound effects.
